He didn't really know what it was though. Soon he had a very weird feeling for Margo. Nine years later, they were in high school, but the two friends were no longer together. She got a few infomation and went to talk to her friend about the who the man was, how was he killed and why. When Quentin was told to go to bed by his mom, Margo went and asked other who the bloody guy was and who knows him? She also wanted to know why he killed himself in the first place. When they told their parents about the problem they called 911 and told them everywhere. Margo was really curious when she was small, and Quentin was very overprotected over her sometimes. They had been great friends when they were young, when they saw a dead and bloody man at a park. The book I had read so far on Paper Towns are about the two adventurous friends, Quentin Jacobsen and Margo Roth Spiegelman. This novel features amazingly healthy and supportive teen friendships - especially between three boys. John Green does a great job creating strong, complex female characters.ģ. While one character has negligent parents, the majority of the adults in this novel and intelligent and truly concerned about the teens - they are advocates, not hostile enemies.Ģ. Echos of Into the Wild and Catcher in the Rye can be heard quite clearly - and anyone who has ever had the urge to buck up against the expectations of peers, parents, and/or society will find plenty to think about in this novel.Ī couple of things that I think make this novel really stand out for parents and educators:ġ. What sets this novel apart is the fact that it delves into very deep questions about identity and relationships. They do pull elaborate pranks which include illegal trespassing, and urban exploration is discussed. That said, the month-away-from-graduation high school seniors in this novel behave like real world older teens. In terms of the content, I did not find there to be anywhere near as much language, sexuality, drinking, etc.
